Yes, I know yesterday was officially the first day of September. I ranted a little bit about a video game I started to play, but I'm finding I can't finish. Chances, it'd be one of those forever games that ends with no real conclusion. I mean, I realize the same thing can potentially happen with Anamnesis in Japan. I do wish I had a clear idea on how long that particular mobile game is going to run in Japan because the characters eventually have to make it home. That's the point of the game, or at least it's supposed to be. That's my understanding of the English version, which is, sadly, no longer being updated. See the second or third entry for my On the Subject of Gaming to find out why I feel that it's not receiving a definitive conclusion.
That said, I'm super stoked that September is here! I know for many it's back to school time, it's football season, it's time for harvests to start rolling in, if they aren't already . . . For me, it's pumpkin season. I'm so looking forward to having some pumpkin spice coffees and other yummy stuff. It's also Halloween season. If I lived in an apartment or a house all to myself right now, I'd be going wild with the Halloween decorations. I just love the vibe of Halloween, and I definitely would want to live in a high-traffic, trick-or-treating zone because that's one of the things I've loved about the holiday. CANDY! LOL. Before I moved from Michigan, one of the local franchise department/grocery stores sold $1 canvas, trick-or-treating bags, and I would fill those babies up with as much candy as possible. And I didn't do just a small handful of the fun-sized stuff. I bought big bars, trick-or-treat edition snack chips, and cans of soda to put in these bags along with some non-edible gifts. It's something I would love to do again, starting next year. (Current finances are not allowing for me to get started right about now, which is what I'd need to do if we were in a high traffic area for trick-or-treaters. It'll be our second Halloween in this house so this year might see a slight increase. Only time will tell that tale!)
This is definitely a time where things have started to make the transition into something else, or they're getting started to make that transition. I admit right now that, in my personal life, I'm not in the best of mental places. It isn't for me to admit this, but the stigma around mental health and self-care has been highly frowned upon throughout most of my 41 years on this planet. But I'm taking the steps. I have some books to read, I've started speaking positive affirmations out loud, and, while I'm still there, I'm getting better. I feel better about some of the decisions I've made and that I am making. I'm looking forward to delving more into the gaming world as best as I can. I really do want to learn more about what it takes to become a designer. One of my dream goals in this life is to revamp Star Ocean: The Last Hope, update the story some and make it so players can have a choice between playing either as Edge or as Crowe and maybe even having the option of the two combining forces in order to defeat the threat to the universe.
It's also a goal of mine to publish Star Ocean fanfiction for pay, or at least develop better drawing skills so I can work on my own doujin. (That would be fun, too.)
Yes, I'm talking a lot about Star Ocean. I have two of my Fayt Leingod collectible figures on my desk right now, and I just feel my heart often swelling with love for this particular series. That's something rare. In the video gaming world, Star Ocean and Dragon Quest are my Lord of the Rings. They are my inspirations to write, to publish, to keep going. The classic Hero's Quest.
There is one announcement I'd like to add to this. It's already been posted once before, but it's worth me repeating.
I have temporarily suspended all paperback sales through Amazon. Some books were already unavailable due to some other issues, but I took Portal to Gaming down from paperback distribution. The reason being is there are some major errors in the manuscripts right this moment. I've fixed some already, but there are still others that require mending. The ebooks are still available. Portal to Gaming is also undergoing revisions and expansion. I know I haven't finished The Arc of Fantasy series yet, but the expansions and revisions are now necessary. I still have paperbacks available from 2018's Tokyo in Tulsa event, and I'm selling them at 10% off their listed prices individually. What I didn't mention yesterday was that I plan on doing a larger discount for purchasing all four books together. I gotta play with the math at this point.
In the meantime, I'm still writing. I'm doing that crazy self-published thing where I'm trying to balance the writing with the editing of a different piece and the promoting and . . . combating the depression of my real life. It's making for some dull times.
And, yes, despite the depression, I am one happy ducky because I've been reminded of the good things I've found and experienced in my life. ^_^
Have a great rest of your holiday today! Until the next time!!
